The grand visual display of culture and sport, that’s the speciality of Kerala’s legendary Snake Boat Races. They are an inevitable part of the Onam festival of Kerala and are held annually on its pristine backwaters. The President’s Trophy Boat Race is a popular boat race held on the Ashtamudi lake in Kollam city on 1st November every year. The day marks the birth of the Indian state of Kerala, which is also known as Kerala Piravi.

It is noted for being the country’s first-ever boat racing modeled on the Indian Premier League (IPL) format.

Conducted at 12 different venues across Kerala on intervening weekends, the Champions Boat League 2019 was commenced on August 31st with the prestigious Nehru Trophy Boat Race held at Punnamada Lake in Alleppey and will come to an end with the President’s Trophy Boat Race taking place at Ashtamudi Lake in Kollam on November 23, Saturday. The winners of CBL 2019 will take home a cash prize of Rs. 25 lakhs.

The President’s Trophy Boat Race 2019 marks the finishing event of CBL 2019 and it is held at the Gateway of Ashtamudi Lake in Kollam district of Kerala. The water column near Thevally Palace marks the starting point of the race while the front of the houseboat terminal acts as the finishing point. The 1250 meter stretch of Ashtamudi Lake between these two points forms the track of the race. The charming Ashtamudi Lake will witness lakhs of people gathering around its banks to get a glimpse of this spectacular water carnival and to cheer for their favourite team on this Saturday(November 23rd, 2019).
