The largest earth dam in India is beautifully placed in the foothills of Banasura hills across the Karamanathodu River and is considered to be the second largest of its kind in Asia. The dam was constructed in the year 1979, to meet the water demand for irrigation and drinking purposes thereby supporting Kakkayam Hydroelectric power project. The dam offers limitless stunning sights. The mist-covered Banasura hills carpeted by beautiful greenery is truly admirable. Trekking and numerous boating options make this place a favourite tourist haunt. Tourists also enjoy overnight camping at this picturesque Banasura Sagar Dam. The tiny islands formed near the dam reservoir is a visual treat for the tourists.
