Kokkamangalam Apostle St. Thomas Pilgrim Centre, an ancient and revered shrine, is believed to have been established by Apostle St. Thomas in 52 AD. Located 23 km away from Mararikulam, in the Alleppey district of Kerala, this pilgrim centre is one of the major pilgrimage sites in Kerala. The Kokkamangalam Church holds significant religious and historical importance, making it a vital destination for devotees and history enthusiasts.

The history of the Kokkamangalam Pilgrim Center is deeply intertwined with the legacy of St. Thomas Marari. According to legend, St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, arrived in Kokkamangalam and preached the gospel for about a year. During his time here, he converted approximately 1600 people to Christianity and established a Christian community. He also enshrined a cross for the faithful, symbolizing the foundation of Christianity in the region. This historical cross was later vandalized and thrown into Lake Vembanad, but miraculously floated to Pallipuram, where it is now enshrined.

The church houses a portrait of St. Thomas, brought from the Carmelite Monastery Mannanam in 1897. Additionally, it contains an ancient relic of the Apostle St. Thomas, brought from Ortona, Italy, by Pope John Paul II in November 1999. This relic is venerated through special Novena prayers held on Friday evenings, attracting numerous devotees, especially those aspiring for jobs in foreign countries.

Kokkamangalam Apostle St. Thomas Pilgrim Center is not only a historical site but also a place of profound religious significance.
