Home to a large number of resident birds as well as migratory birds, Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is a picturesque bird's paradise set amidst a rubber estate with the backdrop of India's largest lake, Vembanad lake and the Kavanar River. This sanctuary is said to be the pearl of India's ecological crown as it is blessed with exotic flora and fauna. A lot of ornithologists, as well as nature lovers, visit this place to enjoy a splendid bird watching tour. Brahminy kite, ergret, waterfowl, cuckoo, darter, and owl are some of the resident birds of Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. Apart from this, more than 60 species of migratory birds from the Himalayas and Siberia reach here during the migratory season. Among them, the Siberian crane is the most famous.
