Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave Temple is the ancient cave temple in Kerala as well as the smallest rock-cut shrine in southern India. It is located very close to the scenic Kovalam Beach and hence attracts a lot of tourists. The rock-cut sculptures that date back to the 18th century give fame to this Cave Temple. The granite cave encircles a one-celled shrine that houses an independent sculpture of Vinandhara Dakshinamurthy with unfinished sculptures of Siva and Parvathi on either side of the cell. Even though it remains half complete, the charm of the sculptures is truly mesmerizing. Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave Temple is now considered as a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India since 1965
