The Aruvikkara Dam which was built to provide water to the city of Trivandrum and to support the agricultural activity in the surrounding villages is now a well-known tourist spot which is frequented by families and friends. The Aruvikkara Bhagavathy Temple dedicated to Goddess Durga which is built on a rock is the prime attraction here. The stream that flows in front of the Durga Temple makes the place more beautiful and it contains large fishes which are fed by the devotees and tourists visiting the shrine. People visit this calming setting to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Dam has a small park, also the zoo and the crocodile sanctuary nearby are set to engage the visitors. Tourists also enjoy boat rides and long leisurely stroll at this serene picnic spot.
