Cochin - Willingdon & Vallarpadam Island

Cochin - Willingdon & Vallarpadam Island

Situated at the heart of Kochi, the Willingdon Island is one of the largest artificial man-made islands in India. This Island is named after the British Viceroy of India, Lord Willington. The Willingdon Island links the Kochi port with other international and national seaports. Apart from the commercial purposes, the Willington island has become a popular weekend getaway landmark. Vallarpadam Island is another beautiful island that forms a part of Kochi. It is connected to the mainland by the Goshree Bridges with Bolghatty Palace on the west. The Kochi International Container Transshipment Terminal, known as Vallarpadam Terminal is situated on this Island. The Catholic pilgrim centre, the Basilica of Our Lady of Ransom is a major attraction in Vallarpadam.
