Renowned as the Ernakulathappan Temple, the Ernakulam Mahadeva temple is one of the historic temples located in the city of Kochi. Lord Shiva in the form of Gourisankara, is the main deity of this temple. Ernakulam Mahadeva temple is a unique Shiva temple where the deity faces the Arabian sea towards West. It is believed that the Ernakulam Mahadeva Temple belongs to the Chera dynasty. This temple is built in typical Kerala style of architecture. The biggest Shiva festival is celebrated at this temple which begins with Kodiyettam. The Pakalpooram and Arattu processions are the major highlights of this festival.
