Alleppey - St. Mary Forane Church

St Mary Forane Church is one of the oldest Syrian Catholic churches in all of India, established in 427 AD. The ancient artefacts and rock inscriptions treasured at the St Mary Forane Church gives a brief idea about the history of the church. It is regarded as the mother church of almost all Catholic Syrian churches and is believed to be the first church to have been founded by the apostle St Thomas, the disciple of Jesus. This pearly white church which is a combination of Portuguese and Syrian Christian styles of architecture is extraordinarily beautiful. This architecture splendour attracts many tourists to this church.
