St. Francis Church

St. Francis Church is situated nearly 44 Km away from Marari. It is considered to be one of the oldest and first European churches in India. It is distinguished for its calm ambience and the beautiful architecture. The Portuguese explorer, Vasco Da Gama breathed his last at this place in the year 1524 and his body was buried at this landmark. The gravestone can be still seen in the St. Francis Church. Tourists and devotees from all over the world visit this church to see the gravestone of Vasco Da Gama. A cenotaph dedicated to people who sacrificed their lives in World War 1 was built at the centre of lawn area of this church.
